Tomorrow is THE Day!

bee

Hollymead Families and Friends,

Just a quick reminder that the first day of school is tomorrow and classes will begin at 7:55 am!

Please be sure to allow plenty of time to get your child(ren) to school and be patient as there

will likely be delays in the drop off lane in front of school.

Be sure to follow the directions of our crossing guards, watch out for children and use your

turning signal when you drive in to the school parking lot.

When school is dismissed at 2:30pm, please be sure to exercise caution in the parking lot and

follow the directions of our staff members who are in charge of routing students to where

they need to be at the end of the day. DO not pass cars in the pickup lane! This creates an

unsafe situation for our students and staff.

Also, remember that school buses will be running late in the afternoon so if your child’s bus

does not appear at the designated time, don’t worry! They usually run 10-15 minutes late

the first few days of school.

Finally a few other tips/info:

Lunch – Parents can send in cash or a check for lunch money. Make checks payable to

Hollymead Cafeteria. Also, please put your child’s first AND last name in the memo section

of the check. If you send in a zip lock baggie with cash, label it with your child’s first

and last name too. Our cafeteria manager will greatly appreciate this :)

Lunch Times, fyi:
K-11:25 am
1st-11:50 am
2nd-12:15 pm
3rd-12:40 pm
4th-11:00 am
5th-1:05 pm

Forms Be sure to send in your child’s dismissal forms as soon as possible.

The school office staff needs this information to create dismissal plans for students.

Helping Hands – We have a wonderful fleet of PTO volunteers that will be on-hand in

the morning and afternoon to help get children where they need to be. You do not

have to walk your children to their classrooms as they will be on hand to help!

If you would like to walk your child to his/her class, you need to come to

the main office of the school, sign in and get a visitor’s sticker. Be sure that

you bring a drivers license with you as you will need it to log in to the computer

with it.

When you leave school, stop by the office and a staff member will sign you out.

We are very excited to start another year at Hollymead and we welcome our

new and returning students!

If you have any questions or need assistance, please call the main office at

434.973.8301.

Reminders and Info for the Upcoming School Year

Dear Hollymead Parents & Friends,

The 2017-2018 school year is almost underway.

We look forward to seeing you at the school-wide open house on Monday 8/21
from 4:30-6:00 pm.  Feel free to bring school supplies, take a tour of the school, meet your child’s teacher & reconnect with friends.

If your child is in Kindergarten, the Kindergarten Orientation is on the same day from 10:30am-12:00 pm. After the Orientation, all kindergarten families are invited to a popsicle party on the playground.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 23!  Classes run from 7:55am-2:30pm.

Here are a few first day reminders:

  • Please have your children to school on time (~7:45am). They should be in their classrooms seated and ready to learn, at 7:55am.
  • Allow extra time to get to school – there will be a lot of traffic and activity on the first day!
  • If at all possible, please do not walk your child to his/her classroom. There will be many volunteers and “helping hands” available to get children where they need to be. If you must walk your child to class, you have to sign in at the main office and get a visitor’s pass.
  • Please watch out for crossing guards and follow their instructions. They are there to ensure the safety of our students! Also, if you use the car drop off/pick up lanes and your children have exited the car, DO NOT pass vehicles in front of you!
  • Please leave your dog at home. Dogs should not accompany your child to school. We have students that are afraid of them. Also, please do not bring your dog when you drop off/pick up your child in the car pickup lane.
  • Remember that during the first week, buses will be arriving home later than usual. Please don’t be alarmed if your child’s afternoon bus is 10-15 minutes late.

Finally, be sure to send your child’s dismissal form to school.  We MUST HAVE this information so we can send your child to the right place at the end of the day! Feel free to print the form found in the “Parents” section of the web site, fill it out and drop it off at the Open House or bring it on the first day of school.

If you have any questions, please call the office at 434.973.8301.

Thank you for your support as we begin another busy year at Hollymead!

UPDATE: EDEP Registration Will Open on June 12 for Full-Time & Part-Time Participants

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Earlier this week, I sent you an email on the new online registration system for our Extended Day Enrichment Program (EDEP). In my message, I said that registration for full-time program participants would begin on Monday, June 12, and that registration for part-time program participants would begin one week after that, on June 19.

This change to our program registration process and the short amount of time for its implementation generated several expressions of concern from parents and guardians for whom the part-time program option was the best choice.

After careful consideration, we have determined that, in the interest of fairness at this late date, we will open registration this Monday, June 12, to all program participants (ages 5 and up), both full-time and part-time.

Beginning on Monday at noon, you will find a registration link on the EDEP homepage.

Computers will be available in our program office at 907 Henry Avenue in Charlottesville for those parents or guardians who do not have access to a computer in their home.

There will be no change in the registration of children who are four years of age. Registration for 4-year-olds will be on a space-available basis only and will begin on August 7.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kelvin Reid
EDEP Program Coordinator
Albemarle County Public Schools

If you need assistance with a language other than English, the International Welcome Center will be available to help on Monday, June 12, from 12 to 4 p.m. They are located at 705 Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901, on the third floor of the Northside Library (434-296-6517). Please be aware that there is a $50 deposit required at time of registration; if you are paying with cash, you will need to register at the EDEP Office.
