PTO Volunteer Spotlight

Meet the Dettmer Family!

Welcome to Hollymead, Dettmer family!  Jenn Dettmer and her family moved to Charlottesville this past August from Alaska.  From the moment they visited Hollymead for orientation, they could feel the sense of community.  They had an amazing adventure living in Alaska and even took seven weeks to travel, in their camper, across the whole continent.  Jenn enjoys working part-time as an Air Force Reserves Intelligence Officer and being able to be home with her children, Riley (kindergarten) and Finnley.  Jenn graciously jumped into volunteering and helping the PTO by running our Bingo Night/Bake Sale, Movie Night/Entrepreneur Fair and volunteering during Book Fair.  She also volunteers weekly in Riley’s classroom.  Thank you, Jenn, for being so giving of your time and talents!

The Hollymead Heritage Festival Is January 26th!

Dear Hollymead Families,

The annual Heritage Festival is just weeks away! It will take place at Hollymead Elementary School on Friday, January 26th at 6:30pm-8:30pm. We will celebrate the many cultures and ethnic backgrounds represented in our school and in our community. This will be a great opportunity for all.

In order to make this year a success, we ask you to consider participating by:

  • bringing food for others to sample
  • wearing or displaying clothing traditional to your culture
  • creating a display of books, artifacts, or pictures
  • demonstrating a traditional dance
  • sharing various types of music
  • and/or numerous other activities that might represent your cultural heritage and traditions

We have had tremendous participation by Hollymead families in the past and look forward to even more this year!

If you are willing to do any of the above, please complete the reservation form and send it to school with your child(ren) no later than Tuesday, January 16th. We need your information early so that we are able to plan prior to the event. Everyone is invited to come, so you don’t have to create a display or presentation, or donate additional time in order to attend. The festival is a celebration of the diversity of our school community and we invite all families to join us. Furthermore, whether you’re sharing or just attending the event, it will be an evening well spent!

The Registration form can be found here: HF Letter 17-18 Registration Form

If you have any questions regarding how you might participate, please contact Becky Brown (rbrown@k12albemarle.org) via email or by calling 434-973-8301.

We are looking forward to a great event as we celebrate the beautiful cultures of Hollymead! See you on Friday, January 26th!

Sincerely,
The Equity Team
Hollymead Elementary School
