A Note From Your PTO

President’s Message

Dear Hollymead Families,

The Board met last week to discuss a few details about upcoming PTO events, as well as review several grant requests.  One highlight is that we were able to approve a request for a Sphero SPRK+ Power Pack.  This pack contains 12 Sphero SPRK+ robots that will be used with ALL Hollymead students.  Hollymead has been borrowing a similar pack from another school and this new pack will allow our students more flexible access to these amazing robots.  Thank you to everyone who bought books at our Book Fair last October, as these proceeds helped us to pay for this pack (cost of $1,799.99) with the use of Scholastic Dollars earned through the event.

Want to know more about the Sphero or other technology your child uses at school?  Come to the Parent Community Chat on Monday (see information in Announcements).

Interested in other information discussed at the meeting?

You can view the meeting minutes here:  January 2018 Meeting Minutes or find them on our website www.hollymeadpto.org.

Kindly,
Shannon and London

If You’re Visiting the School…

We work hard to make our school a welcoming place for our students as well as their families.  It is also important for us to follow the county’s safety plan for checking in.  This requires all visitors to log in to the security system. If you plan on entering the school for lunch, or any other reason be sure to bring your driver’s license.

It is ACPS County policy that all visitors register in the system and then log in using their ID any time they plan to enter the school.

You may also use an out of state driver’s license, DMV identification card or any other U.S. Government Issued ID.  If you do not have this identification, please bring in identification from another country, your work, or something similar, and the office staff will input your  information into the system.

Please know that your first visit will require a bit more time to check in so plan for that.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 434-973-8301.

Please be sure to send in this form if your child’s regular dismissal plan is changing for the day.
Dismissal Forms are *REQUIRED* for DI Club, SCA Meetings, Foster Art Class, Yearbook Meetings. Also, it is very important that we get changes before 1:00pm in order to allow time for processing and distributing the info to our staff members. Finally, DO NOT email dismissal changes. We need them faxed or sent in with your child on the day of the change.
Thank you for your support of our policies. We want to be sure our students are safe and accounted for at the end of every day!

HES Heritage Festival-Send in Participation Forms by Wednesday, 1/24!

Dear Hollymead Families,

The annual Heritage Festival is just a week away! It will take place at Hollymead Elementary School on Friday, January 26th at 6:30pm-8:30pm. We will celebrate the many cultures and ethnic backgrounds represented in our school and in our community. This will be a great opportunity for all.

In order to make this year a success, we ask you to consider participating by:

  • bringing food for others to sample
  • wearing or displaying clothing traditional to your culture
  • creating a display of books, artifacts, or pictures
  • demonstrating a traditional dance
  • sharing various types of music
  • and/or numerous other activities that might represent your cultural heritage and traditions

We have had tremendous participation by Hollymead families in the past and look forward to even more this year!

If you are willing to do any of the above, please complete the reservation form and send it to school with your child(ren) no later than WEDNESDAY, January 24th. We need your information early so that we are able to plan prior to the event. Everyone is invited to come, so you don’t have to create a display or presentation, or donate additional time in order to attend. The festival is a celebration of the diversity of our school community and we invite all families to join us. Furthermore, whether you’re sharing or just attending the event, it will be an evening well spent!

The Registration form can be found here: HF Letter 17-18 Registration Form

If you have any questions regarding how you might participate, please contact Becky Brown (rbrown@k12albemarle.org) via email or by calling 434-973-8301.

We are looking forward to a great event as we celebrate the beautiful cultures of Hollymead! See you on Friday, January 26th!

Sincerely,
The Equity Team
Hollymead Elementary School
