Happy Friday

Happy Friday, Sharks!

Sitting here at the blacklight dance, I realized the end of the day has snuck up on me. So, a short and sweet message today, which works since next week is short. Awesome week here at SMS. The choral groups put on a terrific show for the Winter Concert. The counselors hosted the 8th grade parent night for 8th graders. Those notes can be found on the SMS website. Coming up is a short, two-day week, but many students have MAP tests, class tests, and probably a party here or there. Just a reminder that Tuesday is an ICA day, so shortened classes/longer recess from 3 – 4 PM. Have a terrific weekend! Back to dancemania!

Next Week @ SMS:
Monday, December 18th: Teal Day
Tuesday, December 19th: Black Day (ICA schedule)

News from SMS:

  1. We really need some volunteers to help sell snacks at the beginning of the ICA period next Tuesday.  Please consider volunteering if you’re able to help, it’s quick and easy!  (usually about 45 minutes or less.)  Please click here  if you’d like to sign up. Once a month, SMS has an ICA Day when the kids can sign up to do fun activities for the last hour of the day.  Next week it will be on Tuesday  12/19/17.  At the beginning of the ICA period, concessions are sold from snack carts in each grade’s hallway. Each item is $1.50 and the kids will need to bring money if they would like to purchase snacks.  This is a fundraiser for supplies needed for ICA crafts and activities.     If  you have any questions please contact Amy Dolak at ard07us@yahoo.com.  Thanks!
  2. Sutherland GIRLS VOLLEYBALL INFORMATION  – Girls volleyball registration will be available the first week of January and the practices begin the last week of January.   There is a sports physical requirement to play volleyball so we wanted to let you know a head of time.   There is a copy of the physical form and more information on the Albemarle County Parks and Rec website at  https://www.albemarle.org/department.asp?department=parks&relpage=2896
  3. The application information for the Reflections Governor’s School summer art program is now available! If you are a dedicated artist, you should come talk to Ms. Schneider to find out more information! You do NOT have to be taking art to apply. Also, an informational meeting will be held on January 9th at 5:30 in the art room for any students and parents that would like to see pictures from previous years and get more details.
