Sutherland Picture Day is Friday, Oct. 18!!!!

School Pictures will be taken at Sutherland on Friday, October 18 during the school day.  We will be sending order information home with students today, so please ask for them if your children don’t automatically give one to you this afternoon.

School picture orders have a “satisfaction guarantee” that allows you to return pictures you don’t like and have your children do a re-take on November 21 or ultimately the company will return your money.

You MUST send payment for your order on October 18 if you want to receive the packet for review.  Though we have everyone have their picture taken (for yearbook and student records), you will not be able to place an order after the time pictures are taken.  If you prefer to wait, make-up pictures will be taken on November 21.  You will be able to order pictures or return pictures for retakes that day.

Please call us at 975-0599 if you have questions!  Thanks!  Dave Rogers

Attention Chorus Families

Hello Sutherland Choir families!

The time has come for dress/shirt fittings for the 7th grade choir, 8th grade choir, and Siorcanna Singers.

I would welcome some adult volunteers that would be willing to come in and help fit our students with their dresses or shirts.

Please contact me if you are interested and then we can set up a time that will work best for you, me and the students!

Thank you so much for allowing your children to participate in the SMS choral program. I am enjoying my time with them so very much!

Attention 8th Grade Parents

Busch Gardens update: The 8th grade teachers would like to thank our parents for their promptness in returning the blue permission forms during the past week. We are finalizing our head count this week in order to ensure bus seats for everyone going on the trip, and ask that those of you still planning to send one in do so by Friday. If your son/daughter has lost the form, please have them ask any 8th grade teacher for a duplicate. We understand that family finances may be tight during the current economy and may prevent some students from attending the trip. We urge parents with this concern to consider requesting a scholarship for their student by filling in the bottom of the blue form, or by contacting Mrs. Rainey (phone, 975-0599 ext#310, or email: grainey@k12albemarle.org). We appreciate the generous offer of numerous parents to be chaperones for the trip, and will contact applicable parents once we finalize our numbers and determine the need for additional chaperones. Please remember that all parent chaperones are required to ride the bus to and from Busch Gardens in order to supervise their student group. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this request. We will distribute, and post online, a one page flyer on Monday, October 21st, that will contain important information and reminders regarding the details of the trip. Please know that the 8th grade team greatly enjoys working with your students and is looking forward to taking them on this field trip that will also enhance their knowledge of our Expeditionary Learning project for this year.

Mrs. Rainey

Student Climate / Bullying Survey – 10/8 + 9

On October 8th and 9th, we will administer a school climate survey to all Sutherland students.  The survey is produced by Safe Schools/Healthy Students of Albemarle/Charlottesville and is intended to identify students who may be victims of bullying as well as identify ways to improve overall school climate.  Participation in the survey is not mandatory – if you wish for your student not to participate, please notify the Sutherland Guidance Office in writing before the day of the survey.
