~Seniors, this is the last chance for you to submit a senior portrait to the yearbook. Submissions must arrive by Thursday at midnight to be included in the book.

~Attention Students: If you took a test in the ISS room last week and borrowed Ms. Green’s calculator please return it to her.

~Get your winter dance tickets before prices go up on Thursday! Tickets are only $5 today and tomorrow!

~Anyone who is interested in being on the Tom Tom Steering committee should come to Ms. Padrón’s room tomorrow during lunch.

~Come to the Poetry Bash in the library during lunch on Thursday, February 22nd and support your fellow classmates as they share their favorite poetry!

~Attention Students taking AP courses: While AP exams are not until May, registration for exams starts next Monday.  If you are planning to take an AP exam you must register in the Counseling office during registration from February 27th-March 9th either before school, at TAB, or during lunch. The total cost for each AP exam this year is $94.  A $25 non-refundable deposit fee via cash or check is required at the time of registration for each exam you plan to take, checks should be made out to WAHS. If you have any questions or need assistance paying for AP exams please contact Ms. Barnes in the Counseling Office.

~Mrs. Shuey & Mrs. Perkins will not be available for math tutoring this week.

~The WAHS Varsity Girls Basketball team had a strong game last night and defeated the Flucos, 45-34. The team jumped out to an early lead and played tough offensively to seal the win. The Warriors will travel to play at Brookville in Lynchburg on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Regional Semi-finals. Good luck team!

~The Varsity Boys Basketball team won over Broadway last night, 65-40. The team was led by Teo Rampini with 23 points. Chris McGahren had 10 with Charlie Weyher and Garret Payne each with 7 points in the win. The team will host Rustburg at WAHS on Wednesday night in the Regional semifinals. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Come out to cheer on the Warriors!

~Students trying out for Spring sports need to turn in physicals, participation fees and signature forms to the athletic office prior to try outs.

~Tickets for the winter dance will be sold for $5 this week in the cafeteria. The dance is this Saturday the 24th from 8-10. The theme is Winter Wonderland. It is semi-formal. We are asking for snack and drink donations for the dance. Guests from other schools do need to be registered with the front office.

~The WAHS WRESTLING TEAM celebrated  the program’s first ever State Champion on Saturday. Jake Jackson won the Class 3 heavyweight title,  winning 5-2 over his opponent.  Congratulations Jake and the WAHS Wrestling team!

~What a JAW-DROPPING performance put on by OUR WARRIORS at the 3A State Swim and Dive Championship Meet last Thursday and Friday nights.  The Boys team won their 2nd state championship in 3 Years and the Girls team finished as State Runner-Up.  It was an INCREDIBLE way to end the season.

– Every athlete on the State Team Roster scored at the state meet.

– August Lamb won the individual state title in the 100 Freestyle

– William Pertiz won the individual state title in Diving

– August Lamb, Johnny Riordan, Jason Heilman, and Noah Hargrove combined to win the 200 Freestyle Relay

– August Lamb, Noah Hargrove, and William Peritz each set new TEAM RECORDS.

– August Lamb set a NEW Class 3A State Meet RECORD in the 100 Freestyle.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support the team.

~The Varsity Girls Basketball team hosts Fluvanna in the first round of the Regional 3 C Tournament tonight at 6:00 p.m.. The Varsity Boys Basketball team also plays at WAHS tonight against Broadway at 7:30 p.m. Discounted tickets will be available at the gate for $ 5.00  for the first 75 WAHS students. Come before half time of the Girls basketball game and get a slice of pizza as well! Prices at the gate are $ 8.00 so come early and save $ 3.00 !

~Spring sports try outs start for some programs today.  Please turn in paperwork to the athletic office before tryouts today. A list will be provided to coaches before practice. Listen up for announcements this afternoon for any practice location changes due to weather or field conditions.

~The WAHS Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams  compete today  in the State Swim & Dive meet. The Swimming part  of the meet will be held at  the Swim RVA Center  on Friday.  Go Warriors!

~Members of the WAHS Wrestling team compete today in the State Wrestling meet on Friday & Saturday at Churchland High School in Norfolk. Good luck wrestlers!

~Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team for defeating CHS last night 51-38 and winning the Jefferson District Tournament  title last night. The team won the regular season title  this year as well.  The Warriors played tough on offense and defense to seal the win. The Warriors host Fluvanna in the Regional Tournament on Monday night at WAHS.  The Varsity Boys Basketball team will also host their first Regional game on Monday night. Make plans to come out to cheer on the Warriors!

~The Girls’ Indoor Track team won the Region C Championship meet yesterday.  The team was led by Katrine Berg who won the long jump, triple jump, 500m run and ran the anchor leg of the first place 4×400 relay team. She was voted Female Athlete of the meet by the coaches.  Other members of the 4×400 team were Elizabeth Davis, Ella Taylor and Maeci Frank. Zoe Clay was regional champion in the 1000 and 3200.  Second place finishers were Caroline McGahren in the 1600, Maeci Frank in the 500, Alyssa Santoro-Adajian in the 3200, Kate de Jong in the 55m hurdles and high jump, Reagan Burton in the pole vault and the 4×800 relay team of Sterling Hull, Kate Ratcliffe, Caroline McGahren and Julia Berg.  Third place finishers were Caroline Koester in the 300, Julia Berg in the 1000, Kate de Jong in the long jump and the 4x200m relay team of Ellie Cox, Ashna Nitzsche, Elizabeth Davis and Caroline Koester.  Fourth place finishers were Megan Futty in the pole vault and Leah Ackerman in the shot put.  Finishing 5th were Melina Punsalan in the pole vault and Ella Taylor in the 1000.  Sixth place finishers were Caroline Koester in the long jump, Caroline Jones in the 3200 and Kate Ratcliffe in the 1600

~The Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated Albemarle last night, 45-30 to advance to the Jefferson District tournament finals. The team was led offensively by Sydney Sherman with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Caity Driver posted 8 points and 7 rebounds and Ellie Plantz scored 7 points.  The WAHS Girls team will play CHS at 6:00 p.m. in the main gym. WAHS will also host the Boys Basketball District finals tonight with Louisa playing Albemarle at 7:30 p.m.   Come out to cheer for the Warriors!

~Congratulations to the Boys Track and Field team on finishing third at the Region Championship. The team had two individual region champions. Jackson Smith in the Polevault and Joseph Taylor in the 2 Mile.

~The Varsity Boys Basketball team lost to Albemarle last night 61-48 in the District tournament semifinals.  The team advances in the Regional tournament and plays on Monday night at WAHS.  Go Warriors!

~There will be a meeting today  for all girls interested in trying out for JV and Varsity Soccer. We will meet in room D104 after CARE. Please be on time.

~Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams for winning the Region championship on Friday &Saturday. In the meet, thirteen athletes punched their tickets to the STATE MEET that will be held next Thursday and Friday.  They will join the other twenty three athletes who had already secured a spot at states.  The thirty six total athletes participating at states is the largest contingent of athletes that the Western Swim & Dive team has ever sent to the meet. Big shout out to William Peritz and Carey D’Atre for winning individual Region titles.

~Congratulations to the Scholastic Bowl team for going undefeated on Saturday in the Region 3 C meet. The team are Region 3 C Champions and will advance to the State meet at William & Mary on Feb. 24rd.

~The Varsity Wrestling team finished 4th in the Region 3 C meet on Saturday. The team qualified 6 wrestlers to move on to the State meet. Jack Overstreet, Beighley Austin, Drew Rakes, Keegan Riley, Bryan Bradley and Jake Jackson will compete in the State meet on Friday & Saturday.

~The Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated Orange Friday night, 64-39. The team hosts Albemarle tonight in the Jefferson District Tournament. Game time is 7:00 p.m.  Come out to support the team!

~The Varsity Boys Basketball team won over Monticello Friday night, 64-38. The team advances in the District tournament and plays at Albemarle tonight. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Let’s get some fans there for the Warriors!

~Softball out of season conditioning will be held in the auxilary gym after school today.

~Spring Sports Try out information is posted on the Athletics Website. Please get all paperwork turned in to the athletic office before tryouts.

~The Winter Sports Awards program will be held on Feb. 27th in the main gym. Winter athletes and families are invited to attend and should bring a dessert to share. Drinks will be provided by Pepsi.

The Varsity Girls team will host Orange at 6:00 p.m. The Varsity Boys team will host Monticello at 7:30 p.m. This is a post season event so post season rules apply. Let’s get some fans there to cheer them on!

~Make sure you get to the games early tonight – the first 75 WAHS students to come to the games can purchase a ticket for $ 4.00 – $ 3.00 off the regular price. The Varsity Girls Basketball boosters are also offering a free slice of pizza for WAHS students only at half time of the Girls game which begins at 6:00 p.m. Season passes are not honored for tonight’s event.

~The WAHS Dive team competes at Fork Union on Friday in the Regional Tournament. The WAHS Swim team competes on Saturday at FUMA for Regionals. Go Warriors!

~WAHS Got Talent! is tonight at 7:00 in the WAHS auditorium. There is a suggested donation of $4 or 4 cans goods to help those in need in our community. All donations will go towards helping children with cancer and the canned food will be donated to Loaves and Fishes.  Come out and help while enjoying all the talented people at Western Albemarle High School.

~Do you want to get published? Submit your writing to MYRIAD, the WAHS literary magazine by Feb 10th. Ask your English teacher or see Ms. Burnette in C107 for more information.

~Today’s schedule has been amended to add time to 4th period for a laptop inventory and Student Speak Up survey for those of you that have not yet taken the survey.

~Participants in WAHS Got Talent!  There will be a dress rehearsal for those interested in practicing on the stage in the auditorium Wednesday during lunch.

~The Varsity Girls Basketball team won over Orange last night, 54-24. The JV Basketball team won 42-21. The Varsity Girls Basketball team ended the regular season in first place and will host Orange on Friday night at WAHS.

~The Varsity Boys Basketball team won at Orange last night, 68-40. The JV Basketball team also won their game at Orange last night.  The Varsity Boys basketball team ended the regular season #3 in the standings and will host Monticello on Friday night at WAHS.

~The Warrior Wrestling team will host Monticello and Fluvanna tonight in a meet at 6:00 p.m. It is Senior night for the team so come by the Auxiliary gym and see the team in action. WAHS students get in free to this last regular season event. Good luck wrestlers!
